Cycling Amigos - South America - Cycling and Exploring

[En Español] No set plans just a bicycle, a starting point & the rest we would see how it pans out. This has been our philosophy from the start & now over 10,000km later we've cycled through Ecuador -> Peru -> Chile -> Argentina -> Uruguay & Paraguay along the coastline in between exploring the Peruvian Andes & Bolivia by bus, foot and hired bike. Here you can watch our contiguous cycle journey unfold..
LOVE APPEAL
While Valentine's Day 2010 has come and gone we would still like to draw your attention to the great work of LOVE Trust and keep showing some love as the posts about the final stages of our journey are published here. We would also like to say a big thank you to those who have already assisted by spreading the word, making donations or offering to help in some way. Read more...

The LOVE APPEAL

Why LOVE Trust?
Education is a critical tool in breaking the cycle of poverty and although much is being done by the South African government and other non-profit organisations to alleviate poverty time is of the essence for the most vulnerable. LOVE Trust specifically focuses on the most vulnerable, trying to reach as many vulnerable children as their limited resources allow.
  • has a mission to serve and create opportunities for vulnerable children (any child that is impoverished and/or orphaned);
  • aims to serve the communities these children live in by providing quality education, starting at preschool level and building up to primary and secondary schooling;
  • through the school's presence in communities, develop relationships with the families of the children, looking at ways in which to meet basic needs;
  • plans to open a new school every two years, later hoping to serve and create opportunities across the entire southern African region; and
  • is a registered non-profit organization (NPO); a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO); and is also registered as a BEE Trust. Donations are tax deductible.
LOVE Trust is particularly close to our hearts as our family and close friends are personally involved with the Trust. They have seen what a difference this trust has already made in the lives of these children, as is demonstrated by the successful opening of their first school, Nokuphila School, at the start of 2010 in Tembisa, serving 45 preschool children. LOVE Trust needs your help in one or more of these 3 ways:
  • Raise the profile of LOVE Trust: We aim to use any publicity attracted by our cycle adventure to get people talking about LOVE Trust. You too can assist by spreading the word about Love Trust.
  • Donations (once off or monthly): the more funds the Trust can raise the
    faster they can develop and serve a greater number of vulnerable children, ultimately uplifting communities across southern Africa.
  • Volunteers: All enquiries to Andrew Pitt. Volunteers are to bear in mind that you need to be totally self-sufficient and the work you do should be meeting a real need and add real value to the community you are assisting.
Donations can be made here (http://www.lovetrust.co.za/donate.aspx).
  • International credit cards are accepted;
  • Please include the word 'Amigo' next to your name so that the origin can be tracked; and
  • All donations, no matter how small, are appreciated - thank you for your generosity.

  1. My husband and I came to South Africa just in time for the opening of Nokuphila School. He's directing a feature film here...and it's given me plenty of time to volunteer at Nokuphila 3 days a week.

    I can't tell you how these children have changed my life. And how amazingly The LOVE Trust is affecting their lives! I look forward to being a US Ambassador for LOVE Trust - working to spread the word and raise funds. This is an incredible way to make a difference in the lives of South Africa's future generations.

    Happy Trails...And welcome home!
